Rosemond Sarpong Owens is a Ghanaian-American storyteller, public health advocate, and champion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Rooted in Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and shaped by her life in the American Midwest, she writes to reclaim, celebrate, and elevate Black narratives for readers of all ages. As the founder of The Lion’s Historian Press, she publishes her own books as well as works by other marginalized communities, expanding access to stories that affirm identity and honor cultural heritage. A mother of three daughters, she is committed to preserving African traditions and passing them on to future generations. Through her Heritage Collection and other works for young readers, she creates stories that build confidence and connect children to ancestral wisdom. Inspired by Chinua Achebe’s reminder that “until the lions have their own historians…,” she proudly embraces the role of The Lion’s Historian, ensuring Black voices remain centered and celebrated.
